McShane issues first post-SF statement

FORMER Sinn Fein councillor Paudie McShane - who dramatically resigned from the party in recent weeks - has sent out his first statement in his own right.

Calling himself only a ‘Local Councillor’ he said he welcomed the completion of roads leading into and around the Leyland Farm estate in Ballycastle.

He said he has championed the issue to both Council and the Roads Service and added: “Developers are bound by legislation to complete their roads. Leyland Farm had become a serious safety issue given that cars were exchanging sides of the road to avoid obstacles such as manholes and drainage grates.

“Vehicles were also being damaged by the same. This issue needed to be addressed and I am pleased this has finally been realised.“Residents had endured the incomplete roads for a number of years in Leyland Farm. I am aware of similar cases in Moyle and I will also be highlighting them to Road Service. While most complete them within a reasonable time, it is unfair for developers to sell houses and not complete the roads leading to them,” said the councillor.
