McShane praises local Gaza aid appeal

A Moyle councillor has praised all those who helped an aid appeal for Gaza which, he said, witnessed a huge response from the local community with several tonnes of items being gathered in little over a week.

Independent councillor Padraig McShane said the appeal by the local ‘Antrim to Gaza’ group included clothes, bikes, prams and medical aid, new born babies clothes, nappies, wipes and other items.

“A large number of volunteers from across the North Antrim area have worked tirelessly to gather the aid which will be shipped from Dublin next month,” he said.

“I want to commend and thank everyone who has donated to our appeal to date. We have quite literally collected over two tonnes of donations.

“We know a great deal of people are bringing more on a daily basis. All donations will continue to be gratefully accepted but given the unprecedented response we want to switch our focus to medical, including bandages and first aid kits, new born babies clothes, nappies, wipes bottles etc.

“I stress all donations will be gratefully received. Your response is a humanitarian one and is reflective of the deep sense of injustice felt over recent events. But the events are not recent, they have haunted the Palestinian people since 1948.

“Please continue to support and together as a community we can support the people of Gaza as adequately as possible,” he concluded.
