McShane welcomes Council motion to invite Minister to special meeting

In a statement to the Times, Cllr McShane said: “The absence of Minister Attwood at the recent public meeting arranged by the UFU was frustrating to the Organisers, Councillors and the 700 local Residents who attended”

Councillor Cara Mc Shane added: “At our last council session Sinn Féin put forward a motion for the Minister to be invited to council to speak on the issue outside of the public meeting but unfortunately this was not passed as all the other parties and independants rejected it.

So obviously we fully support a new motion again calling for Mr Attwood to attend and hope that all other councillors will now do so. The people of the Causeway Coast and Glens have made it clear that they do not support the establishment of a National Park.

“As the elected representatives, Moyle council needs to ensure that the Minister is aware of the serious concerns of local residents.”

In another statement she demanded Minister Alex Attwood “put up or shut up” and explain what is behind his obvious support for Causeway and Glens coast to be named a ‘National’ Park area

She explained: “The SDLP themselves seem to be divided on the issue, with an internal split for and against.

“I really wish Mr Attwood would come clean about what his motives are in seeming to push this so heavily when most locals don’t want it. He pulled out of a public meeting so we’re all in the dark as to what his thinking is”, Ms McShane added.
