MEA council to tackle over 300 outstanding planning applications
The new Mid and East Antrim Council will receive 340 live planning applications from the three legacy councils when planning powers transfer to the new council on April 1.
At a recent meeting of MEA Council’s Planning Committee on March 10, it was revealed that 100 live applications will transfer from Larne, nine of which are deferred. Meanwhile, 90 live applications will transfer from Carrick, six of which are deferred. In addition, 150 live applications will transfer from Ballymena, 19 of which are deferred. The oldest backlogged application dates from 2001 in Carrickfergus.
Planning Committee chair Gordon Lyons said he was “not concerned” as the planning committee will not have to decide on all cases immediately, and a delegation scheme will be put in place.
