MEA meets communities

Community representatives from across the new Mid and East Antrim Council met last week in Ballygally to discuss with councillors the future of community development in Larne, Carrickfergus and Ballymena.

Cllr Tommy Nicholl, chair of Mid and East Antrim’s community planning committee, gave a commitment on behalf councillors to “genuine consultation ”and to use the new powers of council to support and grow communities.

Community representatives who presented at the event included Janice Cherry, community development officer of Carrickfergus Community Forum; Deborah Neill, community development officer of Larne Community Development; and Norman Worthington representing Ballymena Community Clusters.

It was agreed the meeting was a useful first step in creating opportunities at grass roots level.
