They’ve organised a Tractor Run to begin their build-up to their biennial school play.

The run is planned for Saturday 12th March as the school prepare to perform another one of Dan Gordon’s Ulster Scots plays.

This year their play is titled ‘Scahldies Up The Chimley’. The plays usually take place in the city of Belfast but this year it is in a rural setting. Scahldies Up The Chimley follows the fortunes of a group of city evacuees coping with rural life during the Second World War.

It’s part of a project to help the pupils take a look at the life and legacy of local inventor Harry Ferguson.

To date the pupils have had visitors in to talk about Harry and past pupil, Emma Nelson even brought her Massey Ferguson, trailer and prize pigs into the school playground.

The younger children, in particular, were amazed at the size of the tractor tyres and laughed as they discovered that they could fit inside one of the wheels.

You can register to take part in the tractor run from 10am on the day and the drive off will be at 11am.

For the purposes of catering, the school would like people to pre-register using the Meadow Bridge Tractor Run Facebook page, contacting Elaine Woods on the school telephone number, 028 9262 2509 or

Colleen Compton on 07875 479018.
