Measures to tackle parking problems at Mossley West

The announcement was made following a site meeting at the train station park and ride by Regional Development Minister Michelle McIlveen MLA, DUP party colleagues and representatives from Translink and Transport NI.

The visit was organised in response to the disruption of Metro bus services in The Glade area after a number of parked cars blocked the road last month.

The Minister was accompanied by South Antrim DUP MLA Pam Cameron and local Cllr Stephen Ross.

Speaking after the visit, Mrs Cameron said: “We have been pressing for upgrades to the park and ride for some time. I am a huge supporter of the need to encourage the use of public transport but the facilities at the train station are completely inadequate for the volume of people using the station on a daily basis and are having a negative impact on the residents of The Glade. I was delighted to receive the news that work is soon to commence to attempt to alleviate some of the issues. These works will include double yellow lines in order to ensure the traffic is able to flow freely and a scheme which will prevent all day parking in some areas. In addition to this, Translink have earmarked an area at the bottom of the existing car park which will be extended to provide upwards of 12 additional spaces. I was also pleased to see that Translink have identified and are at an advanced planning stage in providing a much larger extension to the car park which would yield a further 130 spaces at the site.”

Cllr Ross added; “I look forward to work beginning and seeing how this will help the local people.”
