Meeting discusses anti-social behaviour

MEMBERS of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee heard at the recent meeting that Council Officers had met with the PSNI, NIFRS and NIHE to discuss problems and complaints related to antisocial behaviour taking place in dilapidated and derelict buildings across the City Council area.

It was agreed at the meeting that all agencies should share information regarding complaints they had received and that Lisburn City Council would develop a master list of properties under investigation.

It was noted that future meetings would be held to consider joint action and progress with these problem sites.

Members of the committee discussed the fact that, if derelict properties were under the control of administrators, the council would have legal problems serving a notice on, or prosecuting, the administrators, even though such action could be taken against private owners of properties not in administration.

It was proposed by Councillor Uel Mackin, seconded by Alderman James Tinsley and agreed to recommend that a letter be sent to the Environment Minister requesting that urgent consideration be given to changing legislation to allow enforcement to take place against administrators.
