Meeting on Benevenagh windfarm postponed

The firm behind a controversial plan to construct a windfarm at Benevenagh have cancelled a public meeting which had been scheduled for later this evening.

The firm had already come under fire from campaigners for ‘refusing the local community access to its own community centre’ for apparently making the public meeting on an invite only basis.

Now, the meeting has been called off at the last minute due to “unforeseen circumstances” although the firm say they are still planning for it to take place at another time.

A spokesperson from Windyfields said: “It is with deep regret and due to unforeseen circumstances that Windyfields has had to postpone the information event for the proposed Windy Hill wind-farm due to be held this evening [Wednesday 16 October 2013], 7.30pm at Magilligan Community Hall on the Seacoast Road, Limavady. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause those planning to attend. In the meantime if any member of the public wants to view the proposal it can be viewed in full on the Department of Environment’s planning portal. The company is committed to engaging with the local community and will continue to do so.”
