Meeting over leisure centre closure

CARRICKFERGUS Borough Council is to hold a special meeting tonight (Thursday) over the recent closure of the Amphitheatre.

The leisure centre shut temporarily on December 2 after a routine survey revealed a build up of sediment in water tanks and pipes, which the local authority said had the potential to harbour harmful organisms.

After a deep cleanse operation of the water systems, the centre reopened on December 8.

Welcoming the meeting, Councillor Alderman Sean Neeson indicated that a full report on the reasons behind the closure was imminent. “I think everything regarding the leisure centre should be open as a matter of public interest,” he added.
