Memorable Garvagh Clydesdale Show

ALTHOUGH the weather outlook for the day was not very favourable, it was soon evident that exhibitors were willing to brave the elements to attend the popular Clydesdale and Vintage Vehicle Club's show in Garvagh.

As the morning progressed the field filled up with exhibitors of Clydesdales and ponies for the judging in the arena. A spectacular collection of classic and vintage tractors, cars, motorbikes and commercial vehicles gathered from all over the province and Donegal. Stationary engines were a popular attraction as were several pristine tractor steam engines parked at lower Main Street.

Again the Clydesdale show was very popular with ujudging and arena events continuing until mid afternoon. The judge, Tony Bull, a trader and exporter of Clydesdale from Cheshire, did a sterling job throughout the day.

Other attractions for the children included the bouncy castle and slide, the Animal Farm display, the ever popular pet show, line dancing, Irish dancing, local magician Rodney Hogg, face painting and musician Trevor Dixon.

A new and very popular act was the pan-pipe musicians, never before seen in Garvagh but hopefully they will return again next year.

The threshing display was popular as ever, bringing back happy memories to the older spectators present. The old McCormick Buncher demonstrated by Jimmy Gallager from Raphoe created great interest among the onlookers.

The grand parade of Clydesdales and ponies was led by Scott Brothers of Limavady with a well presented team of four bay horses and a Canadian dray.

This was followed by the classic and vintage tractors, cars, motorbikes and commercial vehicles that had assembled during the day.

The club would like to express a sincere word of thanks to the main sponsors of this well established show, Coleraine Borough Council and the many shops and businesses in the town and district who were once again generous in their support.

Also thanks must be given to the Horse Show judge, Main Street Catering Group, the local PSNI officers for traffic control duties, Garvagh District L.O.L No4 for the use of the field, all the exhibitors and spectators in attendance and indeed to everyone who helped in any way ensuring a successful and enjoyable day.
