Memorial matchraises £2,500

Thirty-two former players and coaches turned out for the memorial which took place on April 23.

Paul McCully, chairperson, Barn Utd Youth FC, said: “Can we as a club say how grateful we are to have had Paul Neill as a chairperson, coach and most of all a friend.

“Thanks to all the players who gave up their time in support of this great local cause, some who haven’t kicked a ball for a few years and some still involved with local football.

“We hope this will somehow help the family as they come to terms with their grief and show them they are not alone, 1 in 3 are here and so are we.”

Mr. McCully also thanked David Adair for the efforts in helping to organise the tribute and Barn for the use of the facilities.

“We would like to thank Barn United FC for not just the free use of the pitch and facilities but also the two kits. Many thanks to them for this.”

Mr. McCully also extended thanks to everyone who came out on the day to show support for the Neill family and 1 in 3 Cancer Support.

A commemorative plaque opened in the training area.

He added: “The day was not about the score or who turned up. It was to celebrate the life and memory of Paul.

The home team was sponsored by Stothers Mechanical and Electrical and Caldwell Engineering and CCM commissioning specialists sponsored the away team.

The 3-in1 charity benefited from a cheque for £2,500.

Paul noted: “All the players took part in fundraising to make the day happen but a special mention has to go to Jordan and Jack and the Neill family for making the day special.”

The match ended in a score of 5-4 to the away team.
