Speaking during an Environmental Services Committee meeting, councillor George Duddy said: “We all know when trees are planted they are liable to damage.

“Are there any of these areas if the families plant them that they are likely to be subjected to anti-social behaviour and damage? And my other question is, are we going to plant indigenous species?

“I wonder about the viability of Christie Park? Is it somewhere where you can plant trees where they will grow successfully?

Replying, Director of Environment Services Aidan McPeak said that the Parks Department would be able to recommend suitable species of trees for the various areas.

The locations are:

Armoy - Riverside Park;

Ballycastle - Quay Road playing fields and tow path;

Ballymoney - Riverside Park, Drumaheglis Caravan Park, Megaw Park, Riada Playing Fields; Bushmills - Millennium Park;

Coleraine - Anderson Park, Poorhouse Gardens, Christie Park, Rose Gardens, Cloonavin;

Cushendall - Cottagewood;

Dungiven - Environment Park;

Kilrea - New Park;

Limavady - Blackburn Park, Benone Complex, Swans Bridge.
