Men charged after arson attacks

Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime investigating a number of arson attacks across Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon district, have charged two men who were arrested following searches in Portadown and Markethill on 14 April.

A 31 year old man has been charged with criminal damage, theft and arson to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court this morning, 15 April.

A 26 year old man has been charged with threats to damage property to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court this morning, 15 April.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

The men had been arrested in relation to a number of arson attacks across Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District over a number of months.

Searches were conducted in Princess Way, Loughgall Road and West Street in Portadown and Greenpark Drive in Markethill. Computer equipment, phones and cash were seized.

Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “These arrests show our commitment to addressing and tackling crime that affects our community.”
