Men convicted of benefit fraud

TWO Newtownabbey men have been convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Stephen Carmichael (21) of Hollybush Gardens, Ballyclare claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £825 while failing to declare employment. He was given a £300 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

Stephen Henderson (26) of Glenvarna Walk, Glengormley was given 120 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Income Support and Disability Living Allowance totalling £727.

Both men are also required to repay any outstanding money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
