Men held over murder of Hillsborough man Ronald Todd are released

TWO men were arrested this week and later unconditionally released in connection with the murder of a Hillsborough man in 2005.

The arrests of the men, aged 32 and 44, came on the sixth anniversary of the discovery of Ronald Todd’s body in the River Lagan in Belfast. They were released later the same day.

Mr Todd was last seen leaving a pub on Maghaberry Road outside Lisburn at about 8pm on 21 December 2005.

Police said he was beaten and tied up before being thrown in a river. His body was recovered from the Lagan near Governor’s Bridge on 14 February 2006.

Mr Todd’s red Land Rover Freelander vehicle had been found burning at Green Road outside Lisburn on the day after his disappearance.

A number of arrests have been made during the investigation, but no-one has been charged in connection with the murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Baxter, who is leading the investigation, said: “Ronald Todd suffered a brutal death, having been beaten and bound before being dumped into the river.

“No-one deserves to die in such a way.

“Those responsible are still at large and it is essential that anyone with information about the murder gives that information to police.

“Detectives are continuing to follow a number of lines of enquiry but the investigation would be assisted if people with knowledge about what happened to Mr Todd six years ago came forward today.”

Police have asked anyone with information on the murder to contact them at 02890 700303. Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.

At the time of his disappearance, Mr Todd, who was a car dealer, lived with his partner and eight-month-old son.
