The three-hour workshop, which will run from 10-1pm on Monday, May 11, will be led by Gary Kane of Action Mental Health’s [AMH] Works.

It has been designed to appeal to anyone over the age of 15 who would like to identify people with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources and intervention services.

The course material includes powerful video clips which illustrate both non-alert and alert responses - discussion and practice help to stimulate learning.

This workshop is one of many planned as part of Health in Mind, a partnership project which is funded under the Big Lottery Fund’s Live and Learn programme and offers a wide range of positive mental health and wellbeing resources and services in libraries and other community venues.

Libraries NI is the lead partner, working along with Action Mental Health, Aware Defeat Depression, CAUSE and MindWise.

Darren Gowdy, Project Manager for Health in Mind, said: “This is a great opportunity for people in the Cookstown area to find out more about suicide prevention.
