Mercury secures gold in Olympic year

THE London 2012 Olympics may still be months away but Lisburn has already secured a gold medal, thanks to a local security firm.

Mercury Security Management, based at Portman Business Park off the Knockmore Road, and Northern Ireland’s biggest independent security management company, has been awarded the National Security Inspectorate’s prestigious NSI ARC Gold Medal, one of the industry’s most sought after awards.

Recognised as a benchmark by every police force in the UK and Ireland, including the PSNI, the NSI Gold Medal rewards excellence in the provision of monitoring centres and to attain the award, a detailed audit and assessment was carried out over two days by NSI inspectors to ensure Mercury Security Management met certain criteria, including Control Room procedures, monitoring and escalation procedures, and the company’s vetting procedures.

A thorough appraisal of all security controllers’ skills, competency and situational awareness was also carried out as part of the stringent company inspection.

NSI Chief Executive Jeff Little flew to Northern Ireland in person to present the award to Mercury Security Management directors.

After a presentation ceremony at the company’s headquarters, Mr Little visited a hidden location for a tour of Mercury’s Alarm Receiving and Remote Video Recording Centre (ARC/RVRC) – the only ARC/RVRC in Ireland to have a cloud infrastructure and from where security systems across the UK, ROI and Europe are monitored.

Mr Little said: “I congratulate Mercury Security Management on becoming ARC Gold recipients. They have one of the finest and slickest operations that I have ever seen which will give lots of confidence to all of their customers.

“This award means that Mercury have been certified to the highest possible level, not just for their product and services but for their quality management system, commitment to customer service and technology that they use, all of which are of the highest standard.

“For an independently owned, home-grown family business like Mercury to achieve NSI Gold status and demonstrate the standards they have reached is simply incredible.”

“This is a great day for Mercury Security Management and our valued customers,” said Mercury Security Management director Francis William Cullen. “The NSI ARC Gold Medal represents excellence and our customers can take reassurance from the fact that we have met strict criteria which include the highest performance standards and a high level of staff training and supervision to industry Best Practice standards. It also demonstrates that we are committed and have the flexibility to respond to changing customer needs to meet the ever changing security demands of the 21st century.

“I’d like to thank the team at Mercury for all their hard work and attention to detail in achieving this great award, the latest in a growing portfolio of top quality accreditations that clearly reflect and demonstrate Mercury Security Management’s position as leaders in their field in providing quality assured security services,” added Mr Cullen.
