Meters to be replaced in Larne

NIE will be replacing approximately 200,000 electricity meters across Northern Ireland over the next two years.

Locally, this work will be carried out by MD Electrical.

Gerard Magee, head of NIE market operations, says the project will update older meters across the country.

Gerard said: “We are delighted to be starting this challenging project, which will involve replacement of electricity meters in around 25 per cent of homes and small businesses across the country by September 2017.

“Electricity meters record the amount of electricity used and this project will replace any meter which has reached the end of its recommended life cycle.

“This will ensure that customers continue to receive accurate information on their electricity usage.

“We are able to identify from our records which meters are due for replacement, and contractors working on behalf of NIE will contact customers directly to make appointments to replace the meters involved.

“If your meter is due for replacement and is inside your property, you will be contacted by one of our contractors to arrange access for their electrician to replace the meter.

“We would greatly appreciate the assistance of customers in facilitating this important work.

“These contractors are working for NIE and will carry identification.

“We would ask all our customers to always ask for identification before giving access to your home.”
