Methodist ‘Road Trip’ to Londonderry

Folks from Dundrum, Newcastle, Downpatrick and Ballynahinch Methodist Churches together with their friends, set off for the City of Culture, stopping off at Jennymount Methodist for morning coffee before hitting the motorway.

The trip was arranged in response to an invitation to Rev Kenneth Connor, who formerly served as Methodist Minister in the City, receiving an invitation to be shown around the Guildhall with his family.

Keen to expand the tour to include others, Rev Connor requested that the invitation be extended to his ‘church family’ as well.

In Londonderry the delegates enjoyed a short lunch break and some sightseeing at St Augustine’s, the wee Church on The Walls, where the Bishop Elect, Rev Pat Storey, popped in to say hello. At 3pm the group met the Mayor, Martin Reilly, who, after welcoming the group, took them on a tour of the recently refurbished Guildhall.

At this point the group was also pleased to welcome the Rev Peter Murray.

Before tea in Clooney Hall Methodist Church, kindly provided by the ladies of the MWI, there was time to stroll across the Peace Bridge, go a walk on the walls, and some folk even squeezed in time for retail therapy.

A long but enjoyable day.
