Michelin Tyre PLC at Raceview Road was one of 30 companies across Northern Ireland who supported over 1,700 employees to tackle their weight and change their lifestyle whilst raising money for charity through Business in the Community’s 12-week challenge.

Collectively, the 29 participating Michelin employees lost 418 lbs - the equivalent of almost 30 stone or the weight of two baby elephants - with some individuals losing over 28 lbs and raised a total of £418 for charity in the process.

Celebrating this achievement at an event held at the Michelin Ballymena site on Thursday, Personnel Manager Kathy Simpson said: “Michelin is delighted that so many employees participated in the £ for lb challenge and we are very proud of the achievement and commitment to the challenge and hope that this will the catalyst for a positive change to their lifestyle.”

The money raised by the Michelin employees was equally divided between two charities, Cancer Research UK and Cash for Kids and their representatives were on site last week for the presentation of the cheques.

Thanks to Michelin and the other companies who took part, the £ for lb challenge raised over £19,000 for a range of Northern Ireland charities.
