Michelle’s story boosts cancer charity appeal

Michelle Peacock passed away last year at the age of just 17 following a long battle with cervical cancer.

During her illness, the former Downshire School student gave a detailed account of her experiences in her book ‘Time to take my life back’.

Setting up The Michelle Peacock Foundation in her memory, Michelle’s family have since had her book published and raised over £12,000 so far for several local charities.

CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home Appeal aims to build two self-catering properties within walking distance of the two main Belfast hospitals.

The houses will be provided to families free of charge and offer them the ability to remain close to their loved ones while they undergo treatment as well as the chance to maintain a sense of a normal family life by keeping the whole family together.

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for County Antrim Christine McClune said: “We would like to thank Michelle’s family for kindly donating £1000 to CLIC Sargent.

“The amount of money the family have raised in such a short space of time is just incredible and is going to make a real difference to other families affected by cancer.”

Although construction of the first CLIC Sargent Home from Home at the Royal Victoria Hospital is now complete, fundraising is still required for the teenage and young adult facility at Belfast City Hospital.
