Mid and East Antrim '˜first in queue' for better broadband

It comes as the area is first in the queue to receive investment in better broadband.

With growing the economy a number one priority for the Council, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, explained: “I would encourage everyone to submit their readings this week, so that the Department for the Economy can prioritise where to improve or extend superfast broadband in Mid and East Antrim.”

“We need to know if local residents and businesses are getting the broadband speeds they should be getting.”

“Good internet access is vitally important for our local businesses and is a key requirement in attracting foreign direct investment to the Borough.

“Businesses need the best connections so as to better explore new markets to develop the products and services needed to grow our economy.

“Good connections can give them the competitive edge.”

Cllr Wales continued: “The Borough also has a number of relatively remote rural areas and we especially need these communities to be well connected through technology.

“Fast broadband helps people keep in touch, stay connected and prevents isolation.

“As well as businesses, many people working from home, or even children doing homework may be disadvantaged by poor broadband speeds.

“The Department for the Economy needs accurate data from within our Borough, in order to make informed decisions about priority areas.”

The consultation deadline has been extended to 5pm on Wednesday, December 7.
