Independent councillor Barry Monteith said that whatever the reason for the attack - which is not being treated as a hate crime by police - the culprits actions will affect both young and old in the community.

Moy GAC is Tyrone star Sean Kavanagh’s home club.

“I am sickened that in 2015 that someone would take on to target the Irish culture in Ireland, whatever their reason,” Cllr Monteith said.

“That is a facility for young and old. No matter what their intensions are they are attacking a community facility.”

Police said the clubhouse was extensively damaged in the attack and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
