Mid Ulster councillors divided over ‘Living Wage’ plan
A proposal to bring an estimated 13% of the new Mid Ulster super council’s workforce up to the Living Wage, has created division among Unionists and Nationalists.
While the notice of motion, brought by SDLP councillor, Malachy Quinn, was eventually carried, albeit with a slight amendment, the debate surrounding the issue saw DUP and UUP representatives calling for financial prudence, with Nationalist councillors describing the proposal as an excellent way of tackling poverty in the council area.
