Mid Ulster MLA hits out at parents who ‘allowed children to be used’ at McGlinchey funeral

A Mid Ulster MLA has hit out parents “who allowed their children to be used” as well as the “disappointing” police response to a display of arms at the funeral of Bellaghy man Declan McGlinchey.

The DUP’s Ian McCrea said: “The recent armed display in Co Londonderry by Republican terrorists represents another example of criminals throwing down the gauntlet to the legitimate forces of law and order. It is entirely unacceptable that in this day and age such outrageous behaviour should be allowed to occur.

“The response of the PSNI to these incidents has been somewhat muted. Further terrorist displays of the type witnessed in Bellaghy, regardless of whether or not they are before, during or at funerals should be broken up and those responsible arrested.”
