Firmly in favour of reducing tuition fees, he said increasing access to higher education and apprenticeships would fuel a new economic dynamic and provide young people with an opportunity to build a life at home.

“I have heard the new Economy Minister dance around the issue of increasing student fees,” he explained. “We must be absolutely clear – diminishing access to higher education and apprenticeships would be a massively retrograde step that would damage our economy, devastate our communities and deal a hammer blow to families across the North.

“We will stand with students and with the student movement in defence of their right to an affordable education. Others should join us.”
