Mid Ulster MLA urges public to back Daffodil Appeal for Marie Curie

The campaign is Marie Curie’s biggest fundraising appeal and aims to raise vital funds that will allow Marie Curie to deliver and develop vital services to people, and their families living with any terminal illness, either in their own homes or at the charity’s hospice in Belfast.

Mrs Overend said:“It was a pleasure to lend my support at the launch of the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal at Parliament Buildings in Stormont.

“The Daffodil Appeal is the main means through which Marie Curie cancer care raises money to care for the thousands of people in Northern Ireland who are living with terminal illnesses such as cancer.

“Marie Curie nurses attended 298 patients in their own homes in Mid-Ulster last year, spending 10,225 hours giving specialist care to those who are at the end of their lives.

“They provide free specialist medical care for those with terminal illnesses, as well as providing companionship, non-clinical support and emotional support for families.”

Mrs Overend continued, “As well as the Marie Curie shops throughout Northern Ireland, including the one in Cookstown, Marie Curie relies on fundraising to help support this vital work.

“The Daffodil Appeal makes up the bulk of this fundraising. I support the Daffodil Appeal, and hope that you can too by making a donation and wearing your daffodil to show your support.”
