Reporting for duty are 11-week-old Belgium Shepherd pup Zorro, who has followed in his daddy Lux’s pawsteps, and 5-year-old Chita, who’s of the same breed.

New recruit Zorro is to be trained as a general purpose police dog - we’re sure he’ll bring some “puppy power” to the role.

While veteran police dog Chita has aced his annual review with a new handler and will be replacing recently retired Condor on our streets.

Public reaction to the new recruits has been “positive” say police.

But one concerned local did ask whether it was wise to publicly reveal their identities as “they might be recognised by criminals”.

Police dogs retire aged eight. We look forward to seeing what these two new recruits can do.
