Mid Ulster roads '˜will get worse' with pot holes warns councillor
Mid Ulster SDLP Councillor Malachy Quinn has warned that budgets cuts are causing delays in repairing rural roads.
Cllr Quinn said: “In recent correspondence with Transport NI, highlighting required repairs to some local roads, I was informed that financial pressures had caused an interim measure to be put in place whereby only potholes wider than 100mm on rural roads will be repaired.
“This is in addition to a longer time, 6 months rather than 16 weeks, between regular inspections of rural roads by the department. The impact of these two measures will be the further degradation of the rural roads network and the increased risk of damage to vehicles and, potentially, danger to all road users. The delays in repairing our rural roads are a result of the cuts already imposed on departmental budgets and the situation is likely to get worse.”
