Mid Ulster UKIP man would donate Westminster wages to ‘persecuted minorities in Middle East’

UKIP’s Mid Ulster candidate in Mid Ulster has said he will donate the ‘majority’ of his Westminster salary to ‘good causes’, including ‘persecuted minorities in the Middle East’.

Alan Day said that more than a third of workers in Mid Ulster are paid less than the ‘living wage’.

“I pledge to draw down a living wage and donate the remainder to worthy causes including helping persecuted minorities in the Middle East,” he said.

“If the general public must tighten belts during austere times then so should politicians.”

“Newly released statistics show that 38.6% of workers in Mid Ulster are paid less than the living wage (£7.65 outside London). Add to this the fact that 70% of the price of petrol & diesel is tax, a reliance on cars & heating oil in rural areas and we have real issues of fuel poverty in Mid Ulster.”
