DUP Alderman Gary Middleton says the party will raise the alleged appearance of a masked and firing gunman in Top of the Hill last week when it meets with the PSNI later today (Wednesday, December 17).

Mr Middleton expressed concern after it was reported that a masked gunman fired several shots over a coffin outside a house in the Mountain View area.

He said the firing will be amongst a range of issues the party will raise when it meets with senior PSNI officers in the city.

“We will be making sure this is on the agenda,” said Mr Middleton. “These groups are supposed to have left the stage and yet we have a man openly firing shots in the street.”

The DUP Alderman said actions such as those reported to have occurred in the Waterside last week are intimidatory and he feared it was a show of strength by republican paramilitaries.

“I’d ask anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward to the PSNI,” the DUP Alderman stated.
