Migrating birds flock to Lurgan

THIS picture of two waxwings in Lurgan was sent to the ‘MAIL’ by Portadown photographer Alistair Prentice.

He told the paper: “These birds have become stars in the Lurgan area.

“Waxwings are from Scandanavia and Russia - last year was a terrific breeding season for the birds and because they have ran out of berries they have hit our shores.

“It’s the biggest migration of these birds that I can ever remember and best places to see them have been Lisburn and Lurgan.

“The birds were spotted outside Kings Park Primary School and across from the BP garage on the Portadown Road.

“It’s got everyone talking around the area.”
