Mileage cut concern

Correspondence is to be sent from Ballymena Borough Council to the Health Minister querying proposed cuts to care workers’ mileage allowances.

The decision to send a letter was taken at last Monday night’s monthly meeting on the proposal of Cllr. James Currie, seconded by Cllr Paul Maguire.

Cllr Currie said he wanted to find out “details of the mileage allowance that was being paid and the mileage that is going to be paid over, say a 10,000 mile range, because it will not be worth their while!”

Cllr Paul Frew agreed that clarification was needed on the issue.

He said: “As far as I can make out it is a Union negotiation, UK-wide, but it will do no harm for this Council to seek clarification.”
