Milena gets MV award of excellence

Local young people, aged from 14-24, have been recognised for their commitment to 200 hours of volunteering at the Millennium Volunteers Awards of Excellence ceremony, held in The Braid, Ballymena.

Milena Mroz from Ballymoney Community Resource Centre, was one of the volunteers to be recognised and receive a MV award of excellence.

The local girl was given her accolade from the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, councillor Billy Ashe, Minister Mervyn Storey MLA and Wendy Osborne CEO, Volunteer Now.

Speaking to the awardees at the event, Minister Mervyn Storey MLA congratulated the young people receiving their awards adding: “Please recognise the skills that you have gained as a result of your experiences, appreciate the positive impact you have made to your local communities and understand that your willingness to give and make a positive contribution within society will carry you far.”

Minister Storey added: “Too often we hear negative stories about young people and here we have a room of amazing young volunteers who clearly dispel that myth.

“I would also like to pay tribute to Volunteer Now as they work with organisations to deliver the programme to a quality standard.”

Wendy Osborne, CEO Volunteer Now said; “Volunteer Now is delighted that in the past year so many young people from across Northern Ireland have received their 200 Hour MV Award for volunteering in the community.

“A staggering total of 192,000 hours of volunteer service - what an achievement, well done to all our Millennium Volunteers - you are awesome!”

Speaking after the event Milena said she was absolutely delight yet humbled to receive the award adding: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time at Ballymoney Community Resource Centre.”

Volunteer Now is the lead organisation for volunteering in Northern Ireland working to promote, enhance and support volunteering.
