Military musician back in city

Former Fort Hill Integrated College pupil, Adam Higginson, is due to make a surprise return to Lisburn with the Band of the Irish Guards later this month.

Unusually, Musician Higginson (21) is now posted to the Band of the Grenadier Guards after spending three years with the Irish Guards.

However, Director of Music, Major Bruce Miller, decided that Adam should join his band at a Beating Retreat to be played at Thiepval Barracks on Wednesday June 29.

Major Miller explained: “Adam is a cracking musician and I decided that it would be appropriate for him to join us, especially for the engagement in Lisburn.

“I know his family live locally and are very proud of him.”

The Band will be performing a charity event for Lisburn based charity, the Army Benevolent Fund in a Black Tie fundraiser, hosted by UTV’s Pamela Ballantine.

The black tie event will be held on Wednesday June 29 at 7.30pm and the band of the Irlsh Guards, who are nicknamed ‘the Micks’, will be making a special appearance on the night.

The evening is not only designed to raise funds for soldiers, veterans and families in times of hardship, but also to reward the charity’s top fundraisers with certificates of commendation.

Tickets are priced £35 each and can be obtained by calling 02892 678112 or emailing ni@soldierscharity.org.
