Millennium Volunteer Award for Dungannon student

LOCAL student Aimee Cuddy has received the Millennium Volunteer Award from the Education Minister John O’Dowd.

Aimee, who hails from Dungannon, and is a student at Stranmillis University, has been a volunteer with the Speedwell Trust since 2010. She has volunteered her time helping children and young people in cross community activities.

Eamon McClean, Trust Manager said, ‘We were delighted that Aimee was selected for this award. She has been generous with her time and has assisted Speedwell in a range of projects over the last three years. Aimee is a great role model to the younger children who take part in Speedwell projects.’

Speedwell Trust is a delivery partner with the Millennium Volunteers Programme. This is a UK wide initiative designed to promote and recognise sustained volunteering among young people aged 16 -24. The Millennium Volunteers programme was launched in Northern Ireland in 1999, and has offered opportunities for more than 4000 young people to gain their Awards of Excellence. Following the success of the first nine years, further funding has been allocated to deliver the programme.

Aimee is in her final year at Stranmillis University and hopes to graduate in July 2013. She said, ‘Volunteering has been a great experience and very rewarding. I really enjoyed the ceremony at City Hall and would encourage other young people to get involved in volunteering in any way they can.’
