Millican trial dateconfirmed

A Magherafelt man has been returned for trial accused of the murder of his former partner at a laundrette in Portstewart.

Dressed in a red tracksuit top, grey tracksuit bottoms and orange T-shirt, Fred McClenaghan appeared in the dock at Belfast Crown Court on Friday for an arraignment hearing.

The 51-year-old, of Broad Street in Magherafelt, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Marion Millican.

Mrs Millican, 51, was shot dead in the chest with a shotgun while she worked at a launderette in Portstewart in March 2011.

The mother-of-four had previously been in a relationship with Mr McClenaghan which had ended three months earlier.

Mr Justice Weir fixed a date for the trial as Monday, May 19.

McClenaghan was remanded in custody to await his trial.

The trial is expected to last three to four weeks.
