Mind elsewhere when speeding - solicitor

A 20-year-old Dunloy motorist has been fined £200 and had five penalty points endorsed on his licence when he appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court last Wednesday on a summons for exceeding the speed limit.

Shane Joseph Patrick Brogan, of 4 McCamphill Park, admitted the offence which took place on April 29 last.

The court was told that Brogan was detected driving at a speed of 75 mph inside the 40 mph zone.

A defending solicitor handed in a reference from Brogan's employer and pointed out that on the day in question her client's mind had been elsewhere as he had just passed his final exam as an electrician.

"My client apologises to the court for his actions. He is normally a careful driver," the solicitor added.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, warned Brogan that he was going to have to keep his speed down if he valued his licence.
