Mini golf plans bunkered

PLANNING permission has been refused for a proposed adventure mini golf course in Kerr Street, Portrush.

At last Tuesday night's Planning Committee metting the Planning Service ruled that the application, which was made by Kennedy Entertainments Ltd, would have a 'detrimental impact on the area'.

Councillors Barney Fitzpatrick and Maurice Bradley asked for more consultation on the project, which is similar to the new mini golf course at Junction One in Antrim. Cllr Fitzpatrick added it was his belief that the project was only a 'temporary structure'.

"Are we not in the business of attracting tourists to this area, a resource like this would certainly help do that," said Cllr Fitzpatrick.

Cllr David Barbour though said that the scheme was 'out of kilter' with the plans on the table for the regeneration of Portrush.

Cllr Robert McPherson agreed and proposed that Council should back the planners decision for a refusal.

This was carried by ten votes to three.
