The swathe of job reductions came about through a voluntary redundancy scheme which saw 278 job losses across Northern Ireland - with 14 occurring in the Dungannon and Cookstown offices.

The cuts came in all sections of the department, including professional, technical, administrative and industrial staff.

TNI has had to make huge cuts to deal with severe budgetary pressures, with services such as cutting roadside verges and mending potholes affected.

Minister for Infrastructure Chris Hazzard said he has developed a new staff structure across all areas to enable it to maximise the services that it can provide with significantly reduced staff numbers.

“The work to populate this new structure in Western Division is now substantially complete,” he said.

“The reduction in staff numbers has had some impact on the wide range of services TransportNI provides.”
