Minister gives go ahead for 100 bedroom hotel in Lisburn

A NEW 100 bedroom hotel in Lisburn has been given the go ahead by Environment Minister Alex Attwood.

The hotel with health suite and functions rooms will be constructed on Hillsborough Road.

Commenting on his decision, which he said would boost Lisburn’s tourism and job opportunities, Mr Attwood said: “This is great news for Lisburn given the economic and social benefits it will bring to the city, including up to 200 new jobs.

“It will enhance the range of tourist accommodation in the area and boost visitor numbers to the benefit of local shops, restaurants and businesses. What I and DOE are about is creating a better, place to live, work and invest and this will certainly contribute to that.”

The development will also provide new and enhanced access arrangements to the Lagan tow path and a new interpretative centre which will provide information about the Lagan Valley Regional Park.

The application was submitted 10 August 2010 and involves the demolition of an existing dwelling and construction of the hotel along with new road accesses, car parking and site works.

The application was designated one of major importance under Article 31 of the Planning (NI) order on 6 September 2010.

There will be full details about the hotel and what will be included in this week’s Ulster Star
