Minister opens new footbridge

The project, funded by the Department for Regional Development represents an investment of almost £400,000, will provide enhanced safety and convenience for everyone using the station.

The footbridge is situated at the southern end of the platforms, adjacent to the level crossing.

Customers can now safely cross the rail tracks when barriers are down in order to catch their train.

Danny Kennedy MLA said: “The construction project will provide increased levels of safety and convenience for passengers and I commend Translink, McLaughlin & Harvey and their steelwork sub-contractor Fabrite for completing the scheme on schedule and on budget.

“I am confident that that the improvements will be warmly welcome by everyone using Moira Station.”

Moira Councillor Alexander Redpath commented: “This is a very welcome announcement which should improve passenger safety for everyone using Moira Station. No longer will people be tempted to jump the barrier in an attempt to get their train.

“I am particularly pleased that part of the contract for these works went to a Lisburn contractor.

“I was fortunate enough to see a video prepared by Translink showing the construction of the pre-fabricated bridge.

“This was a very impressive sight and is a recommendation for Lisburn manufacturing. I would like to thank Danny Kennedy for his ongoing support for public transport in Lisburn which includes the potential construction of a new station in Knockmore.”
