Minister seeks clarification

SOCIAL Development Minister Margaret Ritchie has written to a group of traders in Londonderry seeking clarification about their concerns over the Waterloo Place Public Realm scheme.

The Strand Road Traders Association (SRTA) raised a number of concerns about the scheme with the North West Development Office in Londonderry.

Responding to a query at the Stormont Assembly the Minister stated: “My Department’s North West Development Office received a letter from the Strand Road Traders Association on 20 January 2010. This is the first correspondence from this group on the Derry City centre public realm scheme.”

She stated that whilst the correspondence did not mention any specific concerns about the scheme it did include proposals for a number of changes.

“As some of the proposed changes would require the approval of both Planning Service and Roads Service my officials have sought their input,” she stated.

“My officials wrote to the Strand Road Traders Association on 22 January 2010 advising of this and seeking clarification from the group on a number of issues,” she added.

A full reply will be issued to the SRTA as soon as DSD officals have all the relevant information, Ms Ritchie advised.
