Minister visits port and airport

REGIONAL Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, made his first official visit to the city last week, stopping off at Londonderry Port and the City of Derry Airport.

“Visiting both Londonderry Port and the City of Derry Airport today has given me the opportunity to meet with management and to see the facilities at first hand. The Port and Airport are key elements of the transport infrastructure of the North West and both have an important role to play in the economic development of this region,” he said.

“I congratulate the Port and Harbour Commissioners for their continued success in overseeing the significant growth of the Port over recent years. Their strong financial performance is particularly impressive given the recent challenging economic conditions.

“I viewed the upgraded runway and infrastructure for which my Department recently provided a further £8.6million grant funding. With this recent investment, City of Derry Airport is now well placed to fully realise its potential as a tourism gateway and driver of economic regeneration for the region,” the Minister said.
