Minister’s response commended

Deputy mayor, Catherine Seeley, has praised agriculture minister Michelle O’Neill for securing a £1.5 million package for dairy farmers from the EU.

She said: “Despite a disengaged British Government, minister O’Neill has gone over and beyond any and all expectations to help alleviate the impact of the current dairy crisis. Operating an open door policy over the summer months when many other ministers had gone home.

“Following successful negotiations with the EU commissioner for agriculture she has announced a £1.5 million package for dairy farmers. She has also had successful engagements at home ensuring early receipt of the basic payment and flexibility from our banks to our farmers.” the deputy mayor continued.

“Minister O’Neill has continually raised the unique circumstances affecting farmers here in the north and has reacted to all crises quickly.”
