Ministers visit Convoy Orange Hall and Presbyterian Church, offering support

The Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt Rev Dr Michael Barry visited Convoy Presbyterian Church on Saturday with Rev John Hanna, Moderator of Derry & Donegal Presbytery.

The church had been broken into and three small fires set in the church the previous day. A spokesman for the Presbytery said little physical damage was done, though the congregation was left greatly shocked by these events.

“On the same night the local Orange Hall was significantly damaged. This follows on from a similar incident in Newtowncunningham just a few weeks ago,” they said.

“Dr Barry’s visit served to reassure the local congregation of the prayers and support of all Presbyterians across the island. The church leaders in Derry issued a joint statement condemning the incident, expressing the Christian community’s desire and commitment to find lasting peace and prosperity for all,” the spokesman said.
