Minute’s silence and rally in solidarity with murdered colleagues

The North West Branch of the National Union of Journalists is holding a short vigil at 1pm in Guildhall Square today (Thursday, January 8) to stand with murdered colleagues at the Parisian magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The vigil will coincide with a huge rally scheduled to take place at the same time in Paris.

Meanwhile, the NUJ also asked all members to observe the minute’s silence called by colleagues in France this morning at 11am our time (noon in France).

“The NUJ, together with journalists and their unions around the world, has condemned this attack as an attempt to gag press freedom and attack the entire profession. Please join us all in stopping work for one minute to pay our collective respects to colleagues who have paid the ultimate price in carrying out their work,” it said.
