Once a small event, the annual fundraiser has become the local charity’s biggest calendar event.

Every cup of coffee poured at a coffee morning raises £2 for Northern Ireland Hospice and last year, the money raised from coffee mornings in Lisburn was the equivalent of providing 77 hours of Hospice care to local people with terminal illnesses. With the first ever coffee morning raising just £5,000, this massive increase reflects the growing number of people who are touched by Northern Ireland Hospice. Almost 30 years ago, the local charity cared for just 98 patients and families. Today over 3,000 terminally ill patients and their families receive Hospice care.

Talking about the 21th birthday Meagan Green says, “This year, I’m hoping more Lisburn people than ever will celebrate the 21st birthday of the Hospice Coffee Morning. Taking part in the event is easy; everyone is simply encouraged to get together with friends, colleagues or family and host a well deserved coffee break. Participants will even receive a free supply of Bewley’s coffee.”

Lynn Cowan, events fundraiser at Northern Ireland Hospice, explains, “This year we need to raise £75,000 from our Coffee Morning; this is money that is needed to ensure that Hospice continues to provide its vital services to local people and their families. Every £30 raised could provide an hour of specialist Hospice Nursing care to a patient in their own home.”

To take part in the 21st Hospice Coffee Morning on Thursday, September 19 and to receive a free supply of Bewley’s coffee, call 028 9077 7123 or visit www.nihospice.org.
