Miss Rosie tobe launched

AN innovative, illustrated picture book will be launched at a free children’s party event this Saturday, May 7 2011 from 2pm-4pm in Londonderry’s Playtrail on the Racecourse Road.

Let Me See… What will I be? is the first in a series of books featuring the character “Miss Rosie Red.”

The book is the creative brainchild of Londonderry-based author/illustrator Trisha Deery and Dog Ears, a new children’s media company based in the city.

Those behind the venture bill it as one of the most exciting businesses to evolve from Londonderry, the 2013 UK City of Culture.

Dog Ears Editorial Director Laura Campbell - whose background is in children’s television and was part of the team that brought the world Peppa Pig - says she is certain “Miss Rosie Red” will capture the imaginations of parents and toddlers alike.

And following the really positive reception of ‘Let Me See’ sofar Dog Ears is currently in negotiation with a number of children’s television networks including CBeebies and Nickelodeon with a view to establishing Miss Rosie Red on our TV screens.

“We are really launching the company with this first book at the Playtrail on Saturday,” she said. “It’s Trisha’s first book. She’s such a fantastic talent and really brings the characters to life.”

Ms Campbell said ‘Let Me See’ was an example of how an arts start-up could help talented Londonderry artists pursue their vocations at home without having to relocate to publishing centres such as London and Dublin.

The work itself is a hardback picture book, written for children aged one to five years old and features thirty-two pages of beautiful illustration.

It is available in two languages, English and Irish, and an interactive App for iPhone/iPad is also in development – the first children’s book App ever to be released in Ireland.

Miss Rosie Red’s children’s party event is free to attend and open to the public, featuring lots of fun activities in the Playtrail’s Ecobase and fairy garden.
